Christmas music fans can add a few tunes to their holiday playlists with Jeremy Vanderloop’s EP, “There’s More.” The five-track record offers listeners more of the style and tone that came through in Vanderloop’s preceding album, “All Creation Sings,” but is tailored to the spirit of the Christmas season.
While three of the tracks are traditional carols familiar to most listeners, Vanderloop puts his own upbeat “rock-and-worship-mixed” spin on them. “Angels We Have Heard on High” and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” get a pumped-up guitar-backed boost, while “Silent Night” flows with a soothing quality appropriate for the song.
The EP also includes two original tracks. With “Peace on Earth,” Vanderloop continues in what seems to be his primary goal as an artist, simply to share the gift of Jesus with others. The title track “There’s More” plays like a soul asking for light and warmth to break through darkness and cold, for a revival of true Christmas spirit--the real meaning behind the season. It suggests a true love and hope available in life that goes well beyond just a feeling that comes up for one day that we celebrate once a year.
