Nintendo and Platinum team up to make a super sentai action game; If I really need to say more to convince you to play The Wonderful 101 at your earliest convenience let me assure you that this game represents both companies at their best, the former’s colorful sensibilities and imagination mixing with the latter’s attitude and penchant for skill-rewarding gameplay. The resulting blend plays its Saturday morning cartoon tropes for all they’re worth while challenging your combo-stringing and reflex acumen in a way familiar to Platinum fans but unique enough to keep from feeling at all stale, the cornucopia of characters trading hammy, self-aware quips and blows with equal gusto. Those of you looking for a reason to buy a Wii U that doesn’t include any of Nintendo’s usual stable of oft-revisited franchises, this is it. For those of you who own a Wii U already, the prospect of supporting a fresh third-party IP from one of the premier developers of the industry today should make this an obvious choice.
