The movie follows new stockbroker Jordan Belfort (DiCaprio) as he rises from rags to riches at Wall St. When it crashes in mid-1980’s he gets another job as a penny broker and uses what he learns there to start his own brokerage with his neighbor, Donnie Azoff (Hill).

Jordan and Donnie hire regular salesmen in order to get their brokerage off the ground. Eventually, they start making money and it eventually leads to some illegal stuff to happen, like money laundering.

Jordan is making a lot of money in a short amount of time. He starts to become a interest for the FBI. Determined to make a name for himself, he tries to continue on with his life as if nothing is going on, losing himself in drugs, sex, and money. He starts losing control of his life and forces his wife Naomi (Robbie) to pull away from him.

Going into this movie you need to know that this movie is very raunchy and has a lot of nudity, drugs, and swearing. If you find this offensive then you may not like this movie.

The cast was done perfectly. Leonardo DiCaprio was perfect as Jordan. He is the perfect guy to lead this movie as he seems the perfect type of person that could sell anything and lead a group of people to do the same. He shows how funny that he can be and captures the craziness of the character while making him tragic in a way. Scorsese is able to bring out the best of DiCaprio and I love it.

One problem with the movie is the length of it. It is a 3-hour movie that really didn’t need to be 3 hours. They could have cut some scenes in the middle that would have made the time more reasonable so that I am not getting uncomfortable in my seat.

In relation to the time crunch, there was a lot of repetitive things. For example, there are a lot of scenes where we just see DiCaprio’s character doing drugs or him or his friends have sex with prostitutes or hookers. After a while, it was just a little redundant. It was ‘ok, I get it. He’s a drug addict and he likes sex’. Cutting some of that stuff out would have helped with the story.

Overall, the movie was very good. It really showed that DiCaprio can still prove that he’s a star as he shows his acting skills as a dramatic and comedic actor. Martin Scorsese once again tells a great story of what life was like for a typical stock broker and one man’s determination to be rich and famous. It’s overall it’s a good movie that has a great story that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. Despite it being a 3-hour movie, it is certainly worth it.
