On Tuesday, January 7th, 2014, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of The Wizard of Oz opened at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts to a jam-packed theater. As the curtains lifted, showcasing a beautifully designed stage, the audience was transported to a simple farm in Kansas where we met Dorothy for the first time.
Played by Danielle Wade, Dorothy and her little dog Toto, are taken on a magical journey to the Land of Oz where they meet Glenda, the good witch, the munchkins of Munchkin Land, Scarecrow, Tin Man Lion and of course, the Wicked Witch of the West plus many more.
As we join them in the their journey to see the wizard, the combination of visual effects, live musical numbers, and a few surprises along the way, it's easy to forget that you're sitting in a theater in Broward. The Land of Oz comes to life all around the theater in this exceptional production of the iconic film, beautifully choreographed and acted out.
Just remember to watch out for the Wicked Witch of the West and those flying monkeys, you never know where they may turn up!
This national tour of The Wizard of Oz is produced by Bill Kenwright, The Really Useful Group, David Mirvish, Troika Entertainment & Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures. The musical remains loyal to the beloved songs from the original Oscar-winning film, including "Over the Rainbow," and the most iconic moments in the film as well.
