If you're visiting Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge and you want to get away from all of the hustle and bustle of the tourist attractions, a trip to the Wild Plum Tea Room for lunch or afternoon tea might be the perfect thing. Located in the arts and crafts community of Gatlinburg, it is a bit off the beaten path but well worth your time.
There are seats located out on an open porch, on a screened in porch, and inside the house. You can request where you'd like to sit, but if it's a nice day an outdoor seat certainly provides a great atmosphere.
The highlight here is without a doubt the tea, and more specifically the wild plum tea. You can get it either hot or iced, and since it was a warm day when we visited we opted for the iced tea. This was hands down the best iced tea that I have every had, and I'm sure the hot tea is just as good.
The menu is a bit limited, and the food prices are a bit high for a lunch, with salads and sandwiches around $10, but it is extremely tasty. They have a few sandwiches, salads, and soups on the menu, as well as several specials of the day. Every meal also begins with a sampling of the wild plum muffins. We tried the two specials when we visited, the salmon burger and the lobster pot pie. The salmon burger had a ton of meat on it that was very fresh and flavorful. The side of fruit salad was delicious and fresh as well. The lobster pot pie had a very nice flavor, with plenty of thick breading on top and good chunks of lobster meat inside.
For dessert we ordered the blackberry cobbler. The dessert options change based on what they've made for the day and what's still available. The cobbler was completely doused in sweet blackberry sauce, with whole blackberries thrown in. There was also a scoop of cinnamon ice cream on top, which melted quickly in the sun but added a nice flavor to the cobbler.
If you're looking for a pleasant lunch on a nice day, the Wild Plum Tea Room just might be the perfect spot. It's located at 555 Buckhorn Road, Gatlinburg, TN. The tea room is open from March until mid-December, Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
