The Werks rock out to celebrate Mouth's 3rd birthday bash + Previews!

It seems not so long ago that Mouth began its rise to fame as a reliable source of fun, funky times in Lawrence and Kansas City. Last night the band celebrated its third birthday with an extravagant party at the Bottleneck, featuring The Werks opening up the show, amazing lights behind both bands and a wild crowd of party people full of good vibes.

The Werks, a funky psychedellic rock band from Ohio, fit right in with Mouth's mix of funky, jazzy jams. A full dance floor and crowded bar was impressed by the opener's fierce, energetic set. Ranging from dance-able, booty-shaking funk pieces to all-out head-banging rock, the musicians of The Werks made a splash with music lovers who had never heard them play before. Roars of applause followed every song and when the band finally finished, a huge wave of dancers emptied out of the Bottleneck for a breath of cool air before the eagerly-awaited birthday-band took the stage.

Mouth's recent change in guitarists has not hindered the band's ability to rock out their old hits as well as new songs. Matt Gader, Zach Rizer and Stephen Gunn have uncanny coordination and their teamwork brings about some incredibly funky, improve jams during their sets. A fellow on electric violin joined the band for some songs, adding a distinctive instrumental voice to the jams. For both band's sets a colorful, dazzling light set up flashed across the venue, casting the band in bright light and adding to the atmosphere of every song. Last night the Bottleneck got down and raged hard for the band's birthday. The dance floor was packed with party people of all ages. Kids barely old enough to get in and ridiculously vigorous old folks were in the mix with Mouth's loyal fans all through the night.

This was a birthday party unlike anything you have seen, but if you missed out don't worry! Both Mouth and The Werks will be playing at Wakarusa this summer!
