This new episode of The Walking Dead (originally airing Sunday night Mar. 17, 2013) starts off with a flashback of Andrea (Laurie Holden) sitting by a fire with Michonne (Danai Gurira). Her pet zombies are chained to a tree nearby. They eat food out of can and try to stay warm. Andrea asks her where she got her two zombie slaves, but Michonne doesn’t want to talk about it. She then says that they deserved what they got because they weren’t human to begin with. Back in current times we see The Governor (David Morrissey) adjusting some sort of chain device meant to chain a person (or zombie) between two poles. He grabs the chains in his arms, falls to his knees and closes his eye with a look of pleasure and pain on his face.
The Governor’s crew is putting a machine gun on a jeep and loading the jeep up with guns. When Andrea asks Milton (Dallas Roberts), who is there watching them work, what was going on he tells her that he is sure it is just a precaution – a show of force. Milton then walks in on The Governor who is setting up a surgical table with surgical tools. Milton wants to know what he is doing and how setting up this “workshop” helps the town. He tells The Governor that he needs to give it up and move on. The Governor tells him that Michonne killed his daughter. When Milton suggests it doesn’t matter anymore The Governor looks him in the eye and tells him, “It is all that matters.”
Outside Milton goes to Andrea and tells her that there really isn’t a deal and that The Governor is planning to slaughter Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group at the next meeting. Andrea tells him she needs to stop this then Milton shows Andrea The Governor’s torture chamber. Milton tells her to leave and tell the people at the prison to get out of there. Andrea says that she has to kill The Governor. As they talk The Governor comes in and they watch him from the window as he continues to prepare. She looks down at him from the window and pulls her gun to shoot him, but Milton stops her.
Back at a house she wants to know why Milton defends The Governor and he tells her that he knew The Governor before this and part of that good person still exists. He even tells her that if she kills The Governor then Martinez (Jose Pablo Cantillo) will just take over and it will be more of the same. She wants him to go with her to the prison, but he won’t so she tells him that if she stays he has to stop looking the other way.
Out in the streets Martinez takes Andrea’s gun much to her protest. The Governor then tells her that he wants her to go with him tomorrow when he meets with Rick.
On the wall Tyreese (Chad Coleman) and Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) are standing guard when a zombie approaches. Tyreese takes some shots and misses a few times then finally gets the zombie while she makes fun of his poor shooting ability. Andrea comes up and tries to talk them into leaving their post. When they won’t she comes clean with them and tells them she is leaving. When they try to stop her she tells them about The Governor being a monster and that they should come with her. They decide to stay. She jumps down and runs down the street away from Woodbury.
Tyreese and Sasha go to The Governor and tell him about Andrea. He tells them that Andrea is messed up in the head and that this place is not a prison. When Tyreese is worried that he caused problems with this The Governor tells him it is fine and has them leave with Martinez to do some work. The Governor walks outside and starts to go after Andrea, but is intercepted by Milton. When threatened, Milton tells him that Andrea told him that she was leaving. Milton doesn’t say so, but The Governor can tell that Milton told her about the ambush and the deal for Michonne.
As Martinez puts together a group Tyreese starts to get the feeling that he is screwing up. Allen (David Thomas May), who was traveling with Tyreese and Sasha, tells him to straighten up and not screw this up for them. Out on the road Andrea jogs away when she hears the roar of an engine so she jumps off the street and hides in the trees as The Governor speeds by in his truck. She is then attacked by a group of zombies. With only her knife she fights off all three of them.
Martinez takes Tyreese, Sasha, Allen and others to a place where they have numerous zombies trapped in a pit. They start loading them into a horse trailer. Tyreese asks if this has something to with the meeting tomorrow between Rick and The Governor and Martinez says it does. Tyreese says he doesn’t want to do this. Rick’s group has women and children and he doesn’t want them fed to zombies. The disagreement leads to a fight between Allen and Tyrees. Tyrees quickly gets the upper hand and could throw Allen into the zombie pit, but doesn’t. Martinez tells them to go back to town since they aren’t any use here. Meanwhile, Andrea walks across country on her way towards the prison. While in an open field she hears The Governor’s truck. She ducks down to hide, but it is too late. He is on her, chasing her down and honking as she runs. She reaches the edge of the clearing and gets into the forest before he can reach her. He scowls as he watches her run into the trees.
The cat and mouse game continues and night falls and Andrea finds a group of abandoned buildings. She can hear The Governor’s truck so she goes inside and hides as he drives around the building outside. He stops the truck and comes inside the building. He starts to whistle an eerie tune as she makes her way through the big building. At one point she fights off a zombie, which he hears and heads her direction. Tension is high as he stalks her through the building. He calls out to her telling her that they need her at Woodbury. He tells her they are her people and it is her home. When she doesn’t answer he grabs a shovel and starts shattering windows then continues after her. He nearly finds her then hears a noise on the other side of the building. When he goes there he finds three zombies. He kills them, driving his shovel over and over into the last one’s head until it is nothing but mush. When she tries a door she finds a hallway full of zombies. She shuts the door, turns around and is face to face with The Governor. As a last ditch effort she opens the door to the hall and steps through another door unleashing the horde of Zombies on him. As he fights them off she runs. Andrea makes her way through the building to an exit as the sound of The Governor fighting zombies fills the air.
At the location with the zombie in the pit, a figure shows up and pours gas all over the zombies then lights them all on fire to destroy them all. They then drive off in a truck with their identity unknown.
As daylight breaks Andrea arrives at the prison. She is about to walk out into the clearing with her hands raised, she can see Rick standing guard, when The Governor tackles her and holds her to the ground with his hand over her mouth. Rick thinks he sees something so he aims his scope that way, but doesn’t see her. At the zombie pit location Tyreese shows up and sees the aftermath of the previous night’s fire with zombies left in a melted pile of burnt flesh and still somewhat alive and moaning.
The Governor meets with Martinez. He doesn’t have Andrea with him and tells Martinez that he didn’t find her. Martinez tells him about the fire. The Governor tells him to round up more zombies and gather Tyreese and his group. The Governor then confronts Tyreese, Sahsa, Allen and Allen’s son. He tells them that the zombies are all just a scare tactic meant for show. He promises them that they are a way to avoid fighting and save lives. Tyreese tells him that he is sorry. He sometimes shoots his mouth off, but they want to stay here and it won’t happen again. The Governor asks Tyreese how he got the gas to start the fire and Tyreese tells him he doesn’t know what he is talking about. Outside, Milton sees The Governor and asks if Andrea is dead. The Governor says he never found her. When Milton says he hopes that he finds out who burned the zombies The Governor replies that he already has.
As this tense episode of The Walking Dead comes to an end the camera cuts to a red door. Behind it, in a secluded building, through a series of doors, we find Andrea gagged and handcuffed to the chair in The Governor’s torture chamber.
