The groundbreaking series the Walking Dead has become an instant hit once the comic was released, but after the hit series was unleashed onto viewers in 2011 it just keeps getting better and better. At one point TV was the place where actors go to die, but thanks to series like this they are churning out some of the best entertainment out there. After two seasons the show has continued to get better and the third season continued to step things up. If for some reason you missed it when it aired on AMC now is your chance to catch up when Walking Dead the Complete Third season hits Blu-ray and DVD.
The Walking Dead seasons 3 follows the group as they flee the farm and convert an old prison into their new home, but events lead to amputation, new members added to the group and a birth shatters lives. In addition, Michonne and Andrea are taken in by the town of Woodbury, a safe haven for walkers run by the seemingly peaceful Governor, but things aren’t what they seem and lead to all-out war with not just the walkers but human against human in a fight that will change everything. Once again this series keeps stepping it up on all levels. While the walkers maintain the ongoing menace they will forever be dealing with, they continue to use the human element as the real struggle. The performances are all top notch as usual, with newcomers David Morrissey’s Governor and Danai Gurira’s Michonne as the two break out and welcome additions to the cast. The show has always maintained a no one’s safe mentality and this season pushed it even farther with some surprise deaths and returns to make for the most compelling season yet. The multi-layers of the overall stories could easily get bogged down, but the brilliant writing keeps them flowing and connecting to the point that will suck you in making you care about every character in the series no matter how bad they may be. The effects continue to get better and better with each season. Those behind the scenes clearly pay attention to what is working and strive to make it better and evolving the characters with each season and more than ever with season 3. There are so many “what the hell” moments in this season that you may not be able handle sitting through the entire season at once, but is so good you will not be able to turn it off.
