The Tutor’s Daughter—A must-read combo of mystery, romance and suspense

“Emma Smallwood, determined to help her widowed father regain his spirits when his academy fails, agrees to travel with him to the distant Cornwall coast, to the cliff-top manor of a baronet and his four sons. But after they arrive and begin teaching the younger boys, mysterious things begin to happen and danger mounts. Who does Emma hear playing the pianoforte, only to find the music room empty? Who sneaks into her room at night? Who rips a page from her journal, only to return it with a chilling illustration?

The baronet's older sons, Phillip and Henry, wrestle with problems--and secrets--of their own. They both remember Emma Smallwood from their days at her father's academy. She had been an awkward, studious girl. But now one of them finds himself unexpectedly drawn to her.

When the suspicious acts escalate, can the clever tutor's daughter figure out which brother to blame...and which brother to trust with her heart?” (Description taken from back cover).

Mystery, romance, suspense—all wrapped up in one package that will leave you entranced and fascinated. Julie Klassen has written a book that will make you stop every once in a while to catch your breath or at least come up for air. Once you start reading, you won’t want to stop.

Emma is a faithful daughter who only wants her father to smile again after her mother’s untimely death. Even though she experienced the loss of her mother, nothing compares to the pain of watching her father pass the time mourning over her grave.

At the cliff-top manor of the baronet, Emma becomes wrapped up in the mystery of the Weston family. Mrs. Weston is all about appearances, and the presence of the tutor and his daughter puts the family in an uncomfortable position as she is trying to find wives for Henry and Phillip in order to save the family from the financial troubles brought on by an old family secret.

Even if you are not a fan of historical fiction, you will love this book and may even develop a love for the genre. I loved the mystery and suspense of the book and was greatly surprised by the ending.
