In a review of private country clubs of Milwaukee, I think the Town Club is a really awesome country club.
Liza Tuttle did write a book about this club called, “The Town Club: The Centennial Celebration, 1901-2001” In this book she describes a fascinating, original and historic timeline of events that centered around the community and the famous Milwaukee families who built this city and the club. http://books.google.com/books/about/The_Town_Club.html?id=MH4vAQAAMAAJ
There are fifteen tennis courts and two swimming pools and just absolutely beautiful grounds. The facility can easily accommodate 200- 250 guests for a sit down party, wedding or funeral. There is an outdoor patio and it can easily accommodate 100 to 150 guests for an outdoor sit down party. They host the annual Marquette tennis tournament every Fall and they fit 100 students in the club house.
The club is located at 7950 N. Santa Monica Blvd. in Fox Point, WI 53217. The phone number is (414)352-6800 there is no webpage available.
You know, I used to work at the Town Club in Fox Point, Wisconsin and for almost an entire year I got a front row seat to the greatest show on earth and I didn’t even appreciate it. I watched some of the more important and mediocre members of the very rich of Shorewood and Fox Point get drunk every week and eat very well at this club.
I met players and stockholders of the Green Bay Packers and heard some of the better coaches give some really great speeches to an audience of half-awake vagrants and retirees who would never memorialize these amazing events or be able to talk of it later or even write about it later.
I was lucky enough to work a constant flow of funerals (including the funeral of one Henry Holt Uihlein Sr.) and classy, sophisticated weddings and overpriced holiday boutiques, to witness an entire wedding party consume 160 alcoholic beverages in a 4 hour time frame. I cleaned up after enough of these event s to know their neighborhood alcohol and drug habits very well. I also worked there long enough to know that the cops of Shorewood never give DUI’s to anyone who they deem important. Obviously, I have no proof on that one, but I meet so many people who have been given DUI’s for a lot of stupid reasons that it gives one pause to consider that most laws may actually be arbitrary.
I worked some of the most mediocre parties in town. I helped a sustainer in the Milwaukee Junior League at her birthday party held at the club. I watched Easter events and Halloween dress up events with homemade candy from the Burke family. I helped work the Breast Cancer event that Squeaky Bruce, who even has a salad named after her at the Town Club, organize and implement.
I got to watch this slide show of a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel photojournalist talk about her arrest at the UW campus for some bogus reason that made very little sense. I had a front row seat for her entire story and since I held such a low class title as a middle aged wait staff member in this club, I never appreciated the fact that I was lucky.
I heard Rebecca Kleefisch give her speech to an entire audience of Republican White Women who hold all the most important committee positions and all the actual paying jobs in pretty much of all Milwaukee. She is very thin and tall and beautiful. Other than that I have not a clue what she talked about.
The staff is very well selected and most of them have been there for years. The chef is an amazing man I believe he even does some side jobs catering. His food is high quality and superior to most of the other private clubs in Milwaukee, I have attended other events at many other clubs and the town club food is outstanding. Even compared to the yacht club and University Club, Town club food is excellent.
