The three best places to spend 4th of July if you're staying in SoCal

4th of July Festivals

July 4th is always a hard day for those of us who are, shall we say, "ballin' on a budget." Food and drink prices are through the roof, everyone and their uncle is packed onto the beaches or in bars, and those who tend to favor the firecracker can spend a pretty penny on their purchases. It's not like taking a trip is easy, either; Havasu is packed and you'll be fighting for space.

So here's a few at-home options that won't break the bank and will give you a pretty good bang for you buck.

1. AmericaFest: The 88th Annual 4th of July at the Rose Bowl

AmericaFest is a very popular event taking place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena every year. This year features Liverpool Legends and Ian Thomas perform following motorcycle stunt demonstrations. Last year hosted Kenny G and included a fly over by military aircraft. The entire event comes to an explosive close with a massive fireworks display unrivaled by most neighboring cities. Open 2 pm-9:30 pm. Tickets available here and are required beforehand.

2. 6th Annual Woodstock Tribute Weekend

While not on the actual 4th of July, Woodstock Tribute Weekend is an excellent way to spend your three day weekend paying homage to 1969. Spanning 10 am until 4 pm July 5th and 6th at the OC Fairgrounds, the Woodstock weekend features tribute bands Aquarius and The Who Revue performing 60's classics. The event is surprisingly family friendly (seeing as the original festival was not), with a VW microbus showing, tie dye stations, face painting, food trucks, and stilt performers. PArking information and ticket prices can be found here.

3. All-American Fourth of 4th of July on the Queen Mary

The Queen Mary is well-known for it's parties. Fourth of July is no different. The famed craft is decorated in the style of various decades throughout the ship, ideal for exploration. Kids will love the live music and dance lessons and the whole event is very kid friendly. There's even the option of purchasing tickets to the Gatsby Grand Buffet in 1920s fashion which runs 4 pm-8 pm. The entire event runs 12 pm to 11 pm and is topped off with a very large fireworks display. Ticket prices very. Click here to find out more.
