Wang & King Asian Café
10720 South Tryon St. Suite A
Charlotte, NC 28273
This cozy Asian Café is located in the Steele Creek area near the intersection of South Tryon Street and Westinghouse Blvd. It has an inviting 70’s appeal and informative website http://wangkingasiancafe.com featuring online ordering for pick-up, delivery and dine-in, so I decided to drop by for lunch. The traditional Chinese dishes on the menu represented a decent selection of entrees with some regional variety. The lunchtime menu featured an abbreviated version of the sushi, sashimi and maki selection, from which I ordered a few maki rolls that comes with soup as a combination. I tried the spicy tuna, salmon and shrimp; and overcame a slight language barrier in ordering my signature “Soundboy roll” (Smoked Salmon, Philly and Cucumber –Tempura) but my server got the gist of it and the chef did a good job on it overall. You don’t always need to speak the language - as long as you catch the drift. The other rolls were pretty good as well and the wonton soup was not bad at all.
The bottled domestic prices are very good, between $2-3.
They also feature traditional Japanese entrees in addition to a full sushi menu available all day. For a healthier experience try the steamer option with vegetables and rice. If you have limited time, try any of the hot or cold appetizers or large-portioned lunch combinations. I plan to return for the dinner experience when I find myself in the area for the evening. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed, so dress casually. The prices are standard and the portion-sizes are adequate. Stop by for lunch sometime for the sushi combination special and try the miso or wanton soup.
