Tis the season for mid-season “star” replacement series. Wow, what a season it is for out-of-work celebrities. At least three series are returning and one is debuting in the next few weeks that feature Hollywood stars – big and small. The list of celebs is crazy big. If these shows are your guilty pleasure, then sit back and enjoy!
Beginning last night (and almost a secret) the truncated version of “Celebrity Wife-Swap” started the race on ABC. Despite its questionable name, last year’s shows proved to be much more interesting and a whole lot less tacky than you would think.
ABC describes the show this way: “Celebrity Wife Swap” puts a new spin on ABC's critically-acclaimed reality series, "Wife Swap," by delving into the lives of celebrities. This season two mothers will switch lifestyles, children and homes (but not bedrooms) as they embark on a journey of self discovery. Each mother will be given the chance to see how the other deals with the pressures of being in the spotlight, and each couple will have an opportunity to remember how and why they fell in love.”
Last year, “Celebrity Wife-Swap” included six episodes. This year they are bringing only three. The three pairings this time around is Coolio/ Mark McGrath, Alan Thicke/Gilbert Gottfried and last night’s episode which featured Kate Gosselin/Kendra Wilkinson. You probably couldn’t find two more opposite women on TV. Gosselin of course is a single mom with eight children.
Wilkinson is married, has only one child and a nanny. Gosselin works all the time and relaxes very little. Wilkinson – just the reverse. Gosselin is known for her family values, Wilkinson is a former Playboy centerfold. However, just like last year, just when you think you already know these people, they surprise you – in a good way. Both celebrity moms take the challenge seriously and leave the challenge respecting the importance of family.
“Celebrity Wife Swap” continues for the next two weeks Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
