Join The Doctor and Jo Grant on an adventure with the gods. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of “Doctor Who”, Penguin Books UK and Puffin Books is releasing e books each month in 2013 featuring one of the eleven Doctors and written by a famous children’s or young adult’s fiction author. For March, Puffin will be releasing “The Spear of Destiny” by Marcus Sedgwick. Exploring Jon Pertwee’s portrayal of The Doctor, Sedgwick takes the reader on a magical journey to the past in order to save all of time.
When the Brigadier notices small temporal disturbances at his bridge club, UNIT asks The Doctor to investigate. At the heart of the anomalies is a Viking spear named Gungnir. After failing in any attempt to acquire the spear from the museum which it lays, The Doctor and Jo travel back in time to walk among the Norse gods. Little does The Doctor know there is even a more sinister force behind it all.
Marcus Sedgwick is an award winning author of young adult fiction from Kent, England. Not only is he an author, he has also illustrated some of his books. His works include “Midwinterblood”, “White Crow” and “The Elf Girl and Raven Boy” series. He is currently working on a graphic novel and screenplay with his brother, Julian.
Each story in this ongoing series has highlighted each Doctor’s strengths and “The Spear of Destiny” is no different. An engaging action and adventure tale, the reader is taken on a mythic journey that only Jon Pertwee’s Doctor could pull off with such style. Combining Pertwee’s charm and quick wit, Sedgwick weaves an engaging story that one cannot put down. With twists and turns throughout, it is nearly impossible to see where the book will go next.
This must read adventure will be available on March 23, 2013, from online retailers such as Amazon. The next adventure in the series for April will highlight Tom Baker’s Doctor. Stay tuned for more updates on this amazing new e-book series from Puffin Books.
