It’s just a stone’s throw away from Grand Central Station, but you’d never know it. Angelo David Salon, which is located on the second floor of a posh office building, is stealthily situated for a reason. And that reason is privacy. So celebrity clients, such as Christie Brinkley, Rosie Perez and Kelly Rutherford (to name just a few), as well as “regular” women just looking to get away, can find a relaxing, non-flashy respite from the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan.
There are two cozy waiting rooms, so clients can wait comfortably and not feel overcrowded. And you probably won’t find yourself waiting there long, as punctuality seems to be one of the salon’s strong suits.
The main area of this full-service salon is open and bright, with six hair stations and a shampoo area strategically placed against the wall. Everyone who works there, from the receptionist to the shampooers to the stylists, are professional, polite and 100% attitude-free. There’s also a manicurist on staff, so if you feel like splurging, you can treat yourself to a relaxing buff and polish, which is performed while you’re getting your hair done.
The shampoo that they use is VOL, which is David’s own line, and it works wonderfully as a pre-styling cleanser. They also add a dab of VOL conditioner, concentrating on the tips. Both products smell divine, and there’s also a fantastic thickening spray that they apply sparingly while you’re hair is still wet. Redken and Pureology are the other two brands they use.
But what’s really impressive about this at first seemingly small salon is that it’s actually very large. Once you walk past the open salon area, there is an extra long hallway that’s made up of a myriad of individual consultation and styling rooms. This is where the salon’s dedication to personalization and privacy really comes into play.
Because in addition to offering well-crafted cuts and color, the salon also specializes in what they call “Couture Hair,” which primarily consists of extensions (although they also offer wigs and other personal hair additions). The staff prides itself in working with the client to make sure they get exactly what they want. There’s a private consultation room, which is big, beautiful and looks almost like a celebrity greenroom. There, clients can discuss what they’re looking for in detail, and there’s plenty of space for friends and family to come along, sit on the couches, and offer their input, as well.
During the actual application process, which can be time consuming and tedious, clients are given their own private room where they can relax, walk and stretch, nibble on a snack, invite a guest: You name it.
If you’re thinking about getting extensions, I can’t image a better place to start then Angelo David Salon. If only to hang in the consultation area alone: That room will make you feel like a star.
And for any other salon service, Angelo David is top notch. So if you find yourself stressed out at Grand Central Station, take a little “me time” break and hop across the street to this terrific, tranquil salon.
