Besides motivation, one of the primary reasons people shy away from gyms is because of sheer intimidation, especially if it’s a MEGA-Gym. Size alone can be overwhelming. And then there’s the fear of the unknown or simply being self-conscious.
Well, I’m here to tell you that this is not the case with ZX Fitness—Durham’s MEGA-Gym. Unlike some MEGA-Gyms, the friendly staff at ZX Fitness strive to make you feel relaxed in their 45,000 square foot facility. Assistant manager, Chris Wilkins is proud of the comfortable atmosphere which he and his counterparts, Ed Morgan (Manager) and Ray Deberry (Sales Manager) insist on providing to more than 15,000 members. They are aware that walking through the doors of such a large facility can be intimidating for new or potential clients who are unsure or a bit self-conscious. This is why they go that extra mile to make sure members feel right at home with a friendly smile and on-point customer service.
Durham’s ZX Fitness also prides itself on the diversity of the club; not just the variety of exercise equipment and activities (personal training, group fitness, child care, cycling, basketball, free weights, badminton, and on-site chiropractor), but also the many different cultures, backgrounds and age groups. They can truly say that all parts of Durham are represented here.
On my scale of 1-5, I have to give Durham’s ZX Fitness a 4.5. There is plenty to do here and more than enough space to do it. But I have to take a half point due to the turn around time when fixing equipment. A few members have stressed concern regarding repair time. On the other hand, it’s rare that you have to wait for a machine, even cardio; they have two cardio areas. So, other than a broken cable or busted dumbbell, I would highly recommend this MEGA-Gym. It’s so big that it’s not just a gym…it’s an experience.
