The Night They Nicked Saint Nick is a wonderful Christmas children's book written by Carl Ashmore. This short Christmas children's book begins with a seven year old boy named Derek. One night Derek is awakened in his room by an elf from the North Pole who tells Derek that Santa Claus has been kidnapped and the Derek is to become the next Santa Claus. Derek, the elf and the rest of the people in the North Pole all go on an adventure to try and rescue Santa Claus.
The Night They Nicked Saint Nick is a great wonderful children's book. The first thing that make's this book great is the way Santa Claus comes into existence. This book takes the Santa Claus story and makes it very unique. Derek,the main character in the book really shows his Christmas spirit and he is also brave for a seven year old boy. Derek also has a lot of internal dialogue which is not seen a lot in Christmas children's books or even just regular children's books for that matter. This internal dialogue by Derek shows his many conflicts within himself, such as does he really want to become the next Santa Claus. The North Pole is also described very well and one can imagine what Santa Claus's workshop really looks like.
The Night They Nicked Saint Nick is a great Christmas book for children and anyone of all ages. In this book there is a good amount of suspense and it makes that reader keep wanting to know what is going to happen next. Children will love going on this Christmas adventure with Derek and learning about how a seven year old boy tries to save Santa Claus.
