The Mystery of History is a thorough, exciting curriculum for all ages

If you are looking for a new history curriculum for your family to use, I highly recommend The Mystery of History by Linda Hobar.

The Mystery of History is a study of world history split into three volumes, with a fourth volume currently in progress.  Each volume includes coursework for one school year.  The author aptly describes her work as "A Classical, Chronological, Complete Christian World History for All Ages."

Volume I - Creation to the Resurrection gives a complete view of ancient world history.  Hobar has carefully aligned ancient world history with biblical history to present a complete history of ancient times.  Hobar's study includes traditional examination of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome as well as brilliantly weaving in the accounts of the Bible as they occurred historically.

Volume II - The Early Church and the Middle Ages picks up where Volume 1 leaves off.  Like she does in the first volume, Hobar includes studies for major historical figures from around the world.  The curriculum includes events from every continent, and addresses the development of many major world religions.

Volume III - The Renaissance, Reformation, and Growth of Nations covers history from 1455 to 1707.  While the Renaissance and Reformation are important events, as noted in the title, Hobar does not exclude happenings from the rest of the world.  She includes also studies from West Africa, India, Australia, Russia and Japan, to name a few.  She also includes, of course, the study of the Pilgrims arrival to North America.

The Mystery of History is a curriculum that was created for the whole family.  The lessons are written with engaging, conversational language that holds the interest of even the youngest learner.  At the end of each lesson, Hobar has included multiple activities that families can use to take their learning to a higher level.  These activities are specially designed to be used with younger, middle or older students, allowing the parent to determine the difficultly and depth of their study.

While the text itself is wonderful, there are also many additional resources available on the website.  For example, you can purchase the complete curriculum as audio books, in either cd’s or downloadable MP3 format, with or without music!  Other aids include timeline figures, coloring pages, folder books, challenge cards, and more!

Hobar has done an amazing job in writing the story of world history in a way that you and your students will be sure to enjoy.  I have never encountered such an enthralling textbook series as this.  I am eagerly awaiting the release of Volume IV – Revolutions and Rising Nations.
