‘The Monuments Men’ is a movie written, directed, produced, and starring George Clooney. It is based on the true story of a group of allied soldiers who join the war effort in an attempt to reclaim the priceless works of art stolen by Hitler during the Nazi occupation of Europe during World War II.
As the war is coming to a close and it is obvious that the invaders are losing, this team was formed to prevent the destruction of said pieces of culture after the Fuhrer orders it. (Geez Hitler, bitter much?)
Clooney’s team includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, and John Goodman, in the roles of American art enthusiasts/protectors/”soldiers.” Everyone gives outstanding performances and, apart from some obvious story telegraphing, this movie will keep you entertained thoroughout.
Originally scheduled for a December release, it isn’t quite clear why it got pushed back, missing Oscar season (as it likely would’ve been nominated).
Regardless of the Hollywood politics, this movie is worth seeing in the theater, but get there early, as the showing I attended was nearly sold out!
At the close, I would like to thank Epic Theaters for their providing a very amiable theater in which to view this (and other) movies and recommend that you go to one of their several local locations for your next cinematic experience.
