Scooby-Doo aficionados know that, at the end of each episode, the foiled villain bemoans his defeat by saying “and I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” In the world of craft beer, there are also villains: corporate breweries, teetotalers, unfair legislation,…etc. but, praise be, for every villain there is a hero—a hero counteracting wrongs with good, quality ingredients and great taste. Like Daphne, Fred, Velma, Shaggy, and Scoobs, this vigilante meddles with the best of them: The Meddler Oud Bruin Ale (8.9% ABV) from Odell Brewing Co.
Color: The Meddler is murky brown like thinned-out hot chocolate and boasts a light mocha-colored head.
Aroma: The nose detects tartness enveloping esters of raisin, plum, and other assorted dark fruits with a vein of vanilla running through the whole aroma.
Taste: While one can’t mistake this beer’s tart nature, the flavor is not nearly as puckering as the aroma might suggest. Regardless, the taste of acidic sourness is still The Meddler’s dominant flavor with the dark fruits not making much of an appearance. There are perhaps hints of both chocolate and vanilla but, overall, drinkers should expect just a pleasantly biting beer.
Mouthfeel: The acidic quality of The Meddler tingles the tongue and insides of the mouth as light-medium wetness washes away these little prickles.
Have no fear, citizens, for good beer is here! For every trouble that may occur in life remember that a finely-crafted beer is never far away. Let The Meddler save the day.
