4Moms mamaRoo

If you’re looking for the ultimate baby swing, check out the “mamaRoo” by 4moms. This infant seat looks incredibly futuristic sitting beside all those other lanky contraptions in the baby isle, plus it’s got a robotic flare to it. Outfitted in sleek white like something out of a sci-fi flick, the mamaRoo is designed to sway your babe to sleep using five unique motions: car ride, kangaroo, tree swing, rock-a-bye, and ocean.

The Lowdown
Gone are the days of actually driving a baby around to use a car’s motion to lull them to sleep, or finding tricks like placing them on the dryer to bounce them off to slumberland—this motorized infant seat does it all for you. Moving away from the traditional battery or parent-powered models of yesterday, the mamaRoo plugs in, so parents won’t need to use batteries or their own arms to power this infant seat. Moving like no other swing, the mamaRoo covers a wide range of motions that include side-to-side, up and down, and figure eight patterns, plus rolling motions, bouncing movements, and gentle swaying—all with five adjustable speeds.

Savvy Design
While this infant seat is incredibly techy looking and is sure to appeal to gadget-loving parents, it’s also very simple to use. The curved seat bar is the only adjustable part, and it simply slides and locks into any position along its axis to create different seat recline angles. All the other adjustments, include motion and sound options, are made using buttons and the LCD panel at the base.

Nature Sounds & Music
The mamaRoo comes with built-in nature sounds that simulate the ocean, wind, rain, a trickling stream, and crickets. Alternatively there’s a docking station where you can connect your device and play your own music. When no sound is playing, you’ll hear a quiet hum from the motor, but generally this infant seat is pretty silent.

Colors & Fabrics
The mamaRoo comes in 6 seat fabrics ranging from monochrome options like black, grey, or silver to colorful fabrics with overlapping square designs that come in blue, green, and my personal favorite: rainbow (“multi plush”). The seat material is soft, removable, and machine-washable. To top it all off there is also a 3-piece plush mobile with three removable balls that hang over the infant seat and jiggle with the movement. These reversible machine-washable toy balls feature colorful monsters on one side and black and white monsters on the other side to stimulate newborn babies.

Newborn Insert
Just for newborns, 4moms also makes an adorable 2-sided newborn insert for additional support that fits right into the seat and is machine-washable too. This reversible insert features more fun and cute multi-colored monsters with bulging eyes on one side and the same funky critters in black and white outlines on the other side.

The Verdict
After playing around with this infant seat, I had one overwhelming thought: how I wish I could fit in there myself! It looks so darn appealing to lounge under that cute monster canopy cradled in a plush chair as you sway off to sleep to a symphony of rainforest sounds. Although this infant seat is a little more expensive than other baby swings, the unique features are well worth it and I’d rank it as a definite baby essential and a great registry gift item too.
