Opening its 1st location outside of Texas a few months ago in Scottsdale, Hopdoddy Burger Bar www.hopdoddy.com is the newest entrant on the valley's burger scene. With lines out the door at certain times of day, sometimes as much of a 40 minute wait, I made way there on a Sunday afternoon to see if it was all that and then some. With 12 burgers ($6.00- $12.00) on the menu that include Angus beef, lamb, bison, turkey and more I went back and forth deciding on the Magic Shroom burger ($8.50).
Using hormone & antibiotic free Angus beef, the burger is topped with a combination of sauteed field mushrooms and Texas goat cheese while the fresh baked and toasted Brioche bun is spread with basil pesto and mayo. Coming served on an over-sized baking sheet was a good thing as the burger was juicy from its pink in the middle rare to medium rare I requested. Bite after bite you knew there was basil pesto and goat cheese on this burger as they both are strong in flavor and added interesting flavors to the burger. I found the combination of all flavors to be good and satisfying. Hand cut Kennebec fries are served a la carte and were good other than I found they were a little shorter than most other fries I've had. They came in handy for dipping with the juices and pesto drizzling of the burger.
Having heard from others the burgers were a bit on the expensive side I found they were in line with other comparable burgers around town and look forward to returning to try other burgers that caught my eye.
