"The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone" is a new children's movie with Christian themes coming to theaters in March. The film stars Mark Dacascos ("Iron Chef," "Hawaii Five-O," "Dancing with the Stars"), Alex Kendrick ("Courageous," "Fireproof" and "Facing the Giants"), Jansen Panettiere (younger brother of actress Hayden Panettiere), Billy Unger ("Lab Rats" on Disney XD, "American Treasure," "You Again"), Sammi Hanratty ("American Girl," "A Christmas Carol"), and James Hong ("Kung Fu Panda," "Chinatown," "Blade Runner").
In the same vein as "Princess Bride," "The Lost Medallion" is a story within a story told to a group of foster children by Daniel Anderson (Kendrick).
A humble king creates a magic medallion from his own crown which grants wishes to the pure in heart. The king hides the medallion right before he is killed by an evil warlord who wants to control the medallion.
Many years later the medallion is discovered by 13-year-old Billy Stone and his friend Allie (Sammi Hanratty - "American Girl," "A Christmas Carol"). The kids are whisked back in time where they must work with the youthful local king to save an island from the evil warlord.
The acting and story may be a little weak at times for adults, but the Indiana Jones-style movie shot in picture-perfect Thailand has no objectionable content and contains great messages for kids about self worth, teamwork and God's love. Mark Dacascos and Sammi Hanratty turn in especially noteworthy performances. "The Lost Medallion: The Adventures of Billy Stone" will be in theaters on March 1, 2013
