Thelma On Clinton is a low-key eatery in the LES (Lower East Side) section of Manhattan located on 29A Clinton Street. This small, and intimate place understands its customers and is a great representation of chef Melissa O’Donnell who’s a native New Yorker. This 800 square foot space designed by Chef Melissa, holds 50 seats, and it is meant to emulate walking into her own home. Her goal is to have a comfortable, open space for guests of all kinds to stop by and enjoy a meal at the tasting table or a late night snack at the bar.
Lets get to the meats and bones of Thelma on Clinton which is the FOOD, I started my night with the Lower East Side Car which is a cocktail made from Brandy, Orange liqueur, fresh lemon, cinnamon and a sugar rim, along with the cocktail I had a starter dish the ‘Honey glazed dates wrapped in bacon’. Both drink and dish were delicious, I also had the Miso glazed codfish, bok choy, Chinese spiced braised duck wings, and Braised short ribs, marrow bone. As far as drinks I sampled The Tenement, The Jones, and The Five Points.
Overall, the drinks and food were amazingly prepared and delicious. My only draw back was the House kippered salmon and beet tartare, the salmon was slightly dry. Lastly Thelma on Clinton is perfect for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd date, the staff and chef are extremely courteous and treat their customers like they matter, I highly recommend.
