Children's toys have inspired many motion pictures. One of the new films in theatres this weekend is "The Lego Movie." This is an animated family film set in a world where everything is made of Legos, the popular Danish building blocks that are almost always to be found in children's toy boxes, as well as their parents couch cushions.
In "The Lego Movie," Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) is a construction worker. He is upbeat, but very generic. His world is ruled by Lord Business (voiced by Will Ferrell), who is planning to glue the whole universe together. Emmet is found by Wyldstyle (voiced by Elizabeth Banks) and joins her and several others in a quest to stop Lord Business. Among the others is Wyldstyle's boyfriend, Batman. He is one of several characters in the film that comes from another franchise. In short, the plot is a familiar one featuring a team of appealing misfits who join forces to save their world from an evil villain.
The animation of "The Lego Movie" is a lot of fun to look at. The way the characters are able to build various things, such as vehicles, is very clever and colorful.
The are many memorable characters in the film. Emmet is very funny. He is very positive, and the other characters find him boring. Another good character is Bad Cop, Lord Business's assistant. He is tough, yet he is also amusing. Bad Cop is played very well by Liam Neeson. As the villain, Will Ferrell is, as usual, very funny.
"The Lego Movie" is very enjoyable, especially for people who grew up playing with Legos.
