The Invaders brought music, fists, and stitches to Los Angeles

Nov 14, 2010 - The same show that entertained at the Latin Grammy 2010 after-party on Thursday came to Los Angeles on Friday to perform as The Invaders Tour at The Quiet Cannon in Montebello.

Again on stage were the bachata group Bachata Heightz, Mexican bachata singer Ivan “La Voz,” Salsa group N’Klabe, Fania tribute band Our Latin Thing, salsa icon Victor Manuelle, merengue group Zone D’ Tambora, and merengue superstar Elvis Crespo.

A good crowd showed up to the event that was charging $70 at the door. (Much cheaper when bought ahead of time online.) Still, the consensus from several in attendance was that it was worth it.

Not a complete shock for Latin events (unfortunately) a scuff reportedly happened right after the concert, as some of the artists’ sexuality was insulted and the response developed into a fist exchange and a call to the police.

As the entertainers traveled to San Francisco for the concert scheduled on Saturday night, a unexpected delay occurred. Their tour bus crashed against another one sending the musicians to the hospital were some received a few stitches but most had only bumps and bruises.

The Invaders Tour will continue Sunday night in Las Vegas for what may be the last tour stop. (One more presentation may still happen in Chicago in December.)

Eventualities non-withstanding, this was a good event, particularly by the introduction of the Fania tribute band Our Latin Thing, a group of young energetic singers who, although impossible to gather for a group picture, sound quite well and show much promise.

I was present the night this occurred. I personally think the group Bachata Heightz put on a great show and would love to see them perform again. What accrued that night was unfortunate, they seem like a talented group. I look forward to what will come of them.
