The Grey

Cast: Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, and Dallas Roberts

Rated R-Language and Violence

The Grey is playing on several screens around the New Hope area. While this is not the perfect date movie (Valentine's Day is next week) it is one of those films that will have your date clinging to you. The only catch is that it may be in fear.

This action film stars Liam Neeson as Ottway, a man haunted by his past, who is paid by an oil company to kill the wolves that threaten the other workers on their Alaskan oil drilling site. After a plane crash lands Ottway and few other survivors in the Alaskan wilderness, it is a fight for survival like no other. Not only do the weakened and injured men have to deal with the harsh Alaskan weather, but also it’s most vicious inhabitants, wolves.

Ottway takes charge of the survivors and they set out on a hike with a hope that they are going in the right direction. After a few members of the team hit heads, Ottway's experience with these majestic creatures helps to secure his place as their flawed, yet brave leader.

Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend's Wedding), Frank Grillo (Warrior), and Dallas Roberts (3:10 to Yuma), along with Nonso Anozie and Joe Anderson, round out the cast of survivors that desperately follow Neeson's character in hopes that he knows what he is doing.

Many topics are brought up in the film that some viewers may find hard to swallow. The discussion of faith, having it, finding it, or losing it, is one of those issues. The characters in this film are criminals and ex-cons so the language is very colorful at times. Considering the topic of some conversations and the frequent "F-bombs", this film is not for the faint of heart or those who are easily offended.

The Grey is an action-packed, nail bitter that will leave movie-goers with a different view of wolves. They are not cuddly Alaskan Huskies nor are they creatures that magically turn into Jacob Black. These animals are wild and will defend themselves at all costs if they feel threatened.

New Hope residents will be able to see The Grey at the following theaters: Rave Motion Pictures Valley Bend 18, Monaco Pictures at Bridge Street Town Center, Regal Hollywood 18 on South Parkway, and Madison Square Stadium on University Drive.
