It’s not every day I stumble upon a fellow twenty-something year-old author dedicated to helping young woman live a great and authentic life.
Then—I met Jordan Brown via Twitter. Brown is a 23 year-old author of “The Girls Guide to Loving Life.” The book is a collection of short stories that help girls get a grip on who they are and what happiness means to them.
The book stemmed from Brown’s own journey of weight gain, boy trouble, and just immense unhappiness for life. She was struggling with finding herself, her identity, and trying to navigate being a girl in today’s world.
Brown embarked on this journey at a young age to figure out what was actually going to make her happy. Through her journey she met a lot of great teachers, role models, and fellow inspirations that helped guide her towards understanding her own happiness. She realized that her happiness wasn’t found through “things” but her happiness was rather defined by being authentic and living a life of gratitude.
Some of my favorite key messages in Brown’s book include finding and cultivating bliss, being alone without being lonely, and practicing everyday gratitude. Each story ends with a powerful affirmation to use as needed, which is a definite added bonus.
This book is a must-read for teenage girls to help them understand that their happiness shouldn’t be dependent on outward things, but rather happiness should be defined by who they are or want to be. It gives real life stories with real life advice that makes it authentic and easy to relate.
