‘The Following’ on Fox recap/review episode 1.2: ‘Chapter Two’

The Following, which aired January 28, 2013 on Fox, was a one, two punch of crazy from beginning to end and one wonders how will this season end?

Ryan and company are investigating the disappearance of Claire Matthew’s son who is also Joe Carroll’s son as well. The nanny (Emma/Denise) is one of Joe’s followers and as the show progresses we see that one of the supposed gay guys (Jacob/Will and Paul/Billy) is her boyfriend, and was set up by Carroll.

Meanwhile the prison guard Jordy is on his own killing spree, and somehow ends up in Claire Matthews home, even though it is surrounded by police and federal agents. The only clear thinking seems to come from Ryan.

While investigating the nanny, Ryan and crew are able to track her by her real name and to her house, which has been turned into some type of Poe-religion church with fake Poe heads and all kinds of writing on the walls. But as Ryan is investigating, one of the Poe heads move and it is yet another follower of Carroll’s.

There is now a new agent in charge, Debra, who seems like she is well put together but by the end of the episode, we see that she brings a book to Carroll and the look on her face is one of reverent worship.

I have to say the more I watch this show, the more afraid I am that Fox will cancel it before it is finished, because this has got to be the craziest show centered around a serial killer who is in jail, but has this crazy following who are following his every word.

The other thing that keeps me watching is the fact law enforcement seems to be a bunch of idiots and the only smart person is Ryan an ex-agent. He gets just how crazy Carroll is and yet, at every turn, Carroll and his crew of crazies make the law look utterly stupid.

And it seems that Carroll can do what he wants, and he apparently has a sense of entitlement and is acting like a God especially as these people are willing to do anything for him.

I have to give this episode a 5. I admit I jumped when then Poe head moved, but the show in my opinion is bloody brilliant and the writing has not disappointed! And I like the fact that it is not a cookie cutter police procedural.
