In attempting to rationalize violence that has cropped up in our nation, such as recent news reports during the 2012 Christmas season that occurred. The tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, watching cable news outlets estimate that up to 18 children had been murdered by a mystery killer. Now to start off the new year with a bang, The 'Fox' network, brings TV viewers a new drama 'The Following', starring actor 'Kevin Bacon's new show which deals with a serial killer. It's a show that packs a violent punch. On 'The Following', film star Kevin Bacon tackles his first starring role in a TV series playing a psychologically damaged FBI agent trying to stop a serial killer who has inspired his followers to commit murders in his name from behind bars. Less than 2 minutes into the opening, we see a half dozen prison guards blungeoned to death,on the floor, in a bloody pool.
Where as a “Castle” will show a bloody female body stuffed in wall safe in its open, they at least dial back the gore and move on with the story. But not on 'The Following', oh no...theres no opportunity for that, And it gets intense. A young female follower commits suicide in public by stabbing herself in the eye with an ice pick, another is shown setting a man on fire at a hot dog stand, When asked Michael Myers, Chucky and Jason said they were shocked.
Not that unlike “Dexter”, a crime scene specialist who also happens to be a serial killer. 'Fox's 'The Follower's' tone falls some where between Silence of the Lambs and Seven and during the episode, either you saw bodys bludgeoned in bed, on the floor, hanging off a rope, falling off rafters. We even witness a flash back of 'Kevin Bacons' character being stabbed in the heart, who now lives with the reminder of a pacemaker for a heart we see protruding under his skin while he showers.
Especially singled out were grisly scenes in a high-depth profile in it's second season is, FX's 'American Horror Story: Asylum for the criminally insane.Hey,if you have not yet seen Episode 11 of FX's "American Horror Story: Aslyum," titled "Spilt Milk" Consider yourself normal and very fortunate.Because these episodes were produced for the criminally insane and mentally disturbed.
This season of "American Horror Story" is buckling down, and with only two episodes remaining "Continuum" and "Madness Ends", all the episodes revolve around torture, electro shock therapy, mad doctors and extremely violent nuns, one in particular played by actress 'Jessica Lang'.
With all this dramatic Hollywood hype, criminal violence in the U.S.,without those sudden urges by the bad guy's would find a lot harder to kill someone to begin with. if they didn't want a handgun. And it can be fixed tomorrow… but broadcasters don't like complicated answers. like comedy shows, with light action and happy ending scenarios, equals a better mood. So why feed the crazies with blood and gore?
