"The Counselor" movie

Throughout the film Michael Fassbender’s character, the no-name Counselor, seems to be the one receiving advice as opposed providing it in a moral dilemma that he faces in “The Counselor.”

Living in the life of prestige, how his character finds himself in the situation that he’s in mystifies. He’s able to purchase his fiancée Laura (Penélope Cruz) an exquisite engagement ring, but has to get involved in a business deal that put those associated with him in peril.

Involved in the transaction are Javier Bardem as Reiner, the Counselor’s business partner, and Brad Pitt as Westray serving as the middle man behind the unforeseen forces that are not too pleasant when things go awry.

Playing counterpart to the innocent Laura is Cameron Diaz as Mallkina, in a role those unfamiliar to seeing Ms Diaz portray for better or worse.

Cormac McCarthy ,a writer turned first-time screenwriter, has the familiar themes found in his book and other films of the present day Wild West set in Texas and Mexico.

Some of his characters are not defined by their nomenclature is a reflection that his characters are supposed to relate to those in the audience when it comes to dealing with their issues on screen between good and evil.

Mr. McCarthy known for his prose are eloquent but at times there should be an editor condensing the dialogue just as there is one with film adds to the film's length at times slowing the pace.

The life of the exquisite shows these characters care free until their world comes tumbling down as their Mexican business partners are none too pleased with the events that transpire.

From that moment, the film picks up the intensity and excitement if albeit too brief of how the individuals of the luxurious are not different from their less fortunate counterparts.

Director Ridley Scott takes on the issue of the drug smuggling and the effects in Mexico with individuals whose lives are lost and those in the States who prosper from their misfortunes.

The Counselor who’s supposed to represent the side of the law finds himself on the other side of those he represents as his life of affluenza can easily taken away from him just because of a moral dilemma.
