This gift sized true story, short enough to read in one setting has been compared to the parable of the Prodigal Son found in the New Testament’s Gospel of Luke. Although the story of Dave’s son and the Prodigal Son share similarities, I felt Dave’s account as a father was more about how he found God in his search for his son than that of the prodigal son.
Because Dave, a father who never knew the Lord, came to plead with a God he wasn’t sure existed for his beloved son’s safety and return as a last recourse. He also made a commitment to the Lord with his final words, “…if you will save my son I will serve you for the rest of my life…”
Dave didn’t know his son had left until his wife Dorinda brought David’s farewell letter into the kitchen where he waited for a pizza to arrive. All thoughts of dinner disappeared as they sat down together and read the alarming letter that birthed fear in their hearts.
In the letter, David, a “…freshman at Eastern Michigan University…” said he knew he was going to fail his classes, he didn’t know how to face his father and decided to run away instead.
The young man said he blamed himself “…his own stupidity and laziness” it wasn’t anyone else’s fault. He just couldn’t face his parent’s disappointment.
Dave’s touching testimony displays the power of God and perseverance in the midst of doubts, in a touching narrative of faith between our Heavenly Father and an earthly father. This is a must read for any parent who lives with the nightmare of a missing child of any age with its message of hope and encouragement

The drive home seemed endless. My mind was a battleground of extremes. Ideas of what to do next to help find David seemed to constantly flood my thinking. Yet the negative side, thinking the worst of what might have happened to my son, was always occupying my mind. Though sleep was dearly needed, it was not welcomed, for even in sleep I was tormented.
Confronting depression, fatigue, and evil, Dave Moore goes on a cross-country search for his missing son. Becoming increasingly desperate and having done all that is humanly possible without results, what will he do? Who will he turn to? In this amazing true story, you will experience Dave Moore's anguish in going through a father's worst nightmare—a missing child. Through his fear, Dave confronts his soul's emptiness and learns the heavenly Father's Love.
