The Devious Means complete Detroit Bar residency, look ahead to OC Music Awards

We’ve previously covered The Devious Means and explained how their live action would win any head-to-head quarrel it came up against and the band will have the chance to prove that at this year’s OC Music Award showcase. On Valentine’s Day, the semi-“Battle of the Bands” gives an award to the best live bands, one electric and one acoustic, and The Devious Means capitalized on the opportunity by rocking a residency at The Detroit Bar in January. Over the four Monday night shows, the Orange County band gave a different flavor to the events, from a speakeasy opening night to an acoustic show before the month was over. The final night gave fans free cake and shirts as part of a joint effort with Collaborative World, a for-profit that helps non-profits.

Singer/Guitarist Christopher Faris on the relationship:

“We partnered with Collaborative World each night to bring in a company we believe in and had unique themes each night to try and keep it fun and different.  They were indispensable.”

The different shows covered the musical gamut of opening acts, with bands like The Silent Comedy, Jameson, Midnight Hour, and many more giving the hometown crowds something local to cheer about. The diversity of opening acts shows the blend of friendships, energies, and connections in the Southern California music scene. By the end of the month, fans of all participating bands got to see other great live music,  growing the scene in an organic fashion.

“It was incredibly fulfilling to see how the residency paid off.  It's a lot of work to coordinate the shows, promote them, and be up each week with enough energy to see everything through.  But it was simply a fun month of music and friends. It speaks to our local music scene: instead of competitive silliness, there really is a family of artists down here pushing one another to succeed.”

A common music loving theory claims that every band used to be a local band, and to that end, it is in your best interest to see local music. Watch the video on the left to get a sense of the band for yourself, and head to the gang’s Soundcloud to check out their newest track “Witmer,” off of their soon-to-be-released EP. Head to the OC Music Awards website for times and dates of The Devious Means and other bands performing live.
