The Creekstone farms black Angus beef Brisket Burger at Cask 63

     One of the newest restaurants to hit the Scottsdale restaurant scene in 2012 is Cask 63 which took over the lease at the former Bloom Restaurant located at The Shops at Gainey Ranch. Owned and run by local restaurant veterans, the menu is similar to that of the locations previous tenant. With 1 burger on the menu, the Creekstone Farms Black Angus Beef Brisket Burger ($15) is not only a mouthful to say, it’s a mouthful to eat, which is not a bad thing especially when at Happy Hour (daily from 4-6p.m. in the bar)  it’s ½ price.

     This burger is ground in house and is blended with bacon, caramelized onions and Cayenne spices adding to the brisket flavor. Served on an oversized Ciabatta roll that is spread with a spicy Chipotle aioli, the burger is topped with melted Pepper Jack cheese and garnished with red onion slices and tomato slices on a bed of romaine lettuce all on the bottom half of the bun. Tasting pretty good with a spicy kick from some of the ingredients, it was cooked to slightly passed the medium rare the server recommended due to its size after I originally asked for it to be rare. It still had juices dripping though bite after bite. I was told that they are working on the size of the Ciabatta roll as it throws off the burger to bun ratio. A generous portion of Parmesan fries are served on the side but seem to be a bit on the salty side, which I was also told they are working on. The fries also have a slightly battered texture and taste. A pickle wedge is also served on the side. Despite the minor flaws that are being addressed this has the potential to be one of the better burgers in Scottsdale especially if you could get there for happy hour.
