Yesterday Fastcompany.com published a list ranking “25 Of The Smartest Women on Twitter”. The articles writer Ann Charles, founder and CEO of BRANDfog- a social media branding company, closed with this statement: “The 25 Smartest Women on Twitter list is obviously incomplete, since the list cannot possibly encompass all of the intriguing women we’ve discovered on Twitter. We will add to this list on an ongoing basis and will publish it twice a year. Our selections will continually strive to showcase new voices. Feel free to tweet additional recommendations for additions to the next Smartest Women on Twitter list to @annmcharles--I’d love to hear your ideas for the next “Smartest” list. Enjoy!” This seemed as though it was truly a sincere sentiment, but oh did she ever receive comments and backlash from the twitter world. There was a clear resurgence of African American Feminism as countless women chimed in on twitter expressing their disgust for the lists lack of “color”. The list was definitely thought about carefully and extremely well put together, and not to take away from the amazing women that are featured on it. But one must asks themselves, why does it seem as though the list blatantly excluded Black women? Is at least one not smart enough to make the first round cut? You be the judge. Check out “6 of the #SmartestBlackWomenOfTwitter”.
