Nestled in a food cart lot on NE Alberta at approximately 23rd Street, the tin-shed styled structure offers unique and curious combinations of gooey, melty goodness on their reader-board menu. Deciding what to order was the hardest part of this eating excursion. Play it safe with Tomato and Basil or test the taste buds with Spicy Beet plus habanero jack cheese? Opting for the latter I was in grown-up grilled cheese paradise.
Slightly sweet, roasted golden beets soften the heat of the hot pepper that infuses the cheese; you get just the right amount of kick. The perfect go-with on the sunny Saturday afternoon was their house-made basil lemonade. Tart, tangy and herbally, the fresh-squeezed concoction was deliciously quenching; and in another life, would love to have a shot of vodka added to it.
Sammie number two was the Pickled Egg with dill cheddar. Think luscious deviled eggs with the full, rich flavor of cheddar enveloping every bite on crispy, toasted levain bread. Move over egg-whatever sandwiches, this is breakfast (or lunch) at its best.
Enticed and smitten by a love of cheese, a return visit will be in the near future.
