Popcap Games has quite a track record for making addictive interactive entertainment and its recent PC release, Zuma's Revenge is no exception. The sequel to 2003's Zuma, this new-and-improved marble popper builds on the concept of the first game, adding new Heroic and Challenge modes to the existing Adventure and Gauntlet modes.
While the previous Zuma was set in Mexico, Zuma's Revenge is set on a tropical island ruled by a series of malevolent tiki gods. Gameplay remains much the same as before, with the point of the game being to make Zuma the frog spit colored marbles into a long, rolling string of similar marbles, making them explode by matching at least three of the same color. You still have to destroy all the marbles before they disappear into a skull-shaped maw, and you can still build up bonus points to create special marbles to aid you. These do things like helping your aim, making the whole line roll backwards and blasting away whole chunks of marbles at once.
Adventure mode consists of five series of ten levels, at the end of which, you face down angry tiki gods in a series of fairly easy boss fights. The overall difficulty of this mode isn't that high, with levels varying based on the configuration of the marbles' paths. For players who want a greater challenge, once Adventure mode is complete, Iron Frog mode is unlocked, a ten level gauntlet that's considerably faster paced.
Overall, Zuma's Revenge doesn't do too many things differently from it's predecessor, but it does offer a graphic upgrade and maintains the irresistibly fun and addictive marble popper play we've come to know and love.
