The Buck Yeager Band, will be headlining tonight at Goode Company’s “Friday Night Concert Series.” Headlining is a wonderful barrier-breakthrough word for the “once opening for...”band! It was difficult for me to understand from a talk with Greg Walton, lead singer that they weren’t already out there headlining! They had such a great sound, stronger than most much more experienced bands! I knew that the Buck Yeager Band was meant to be in front of the race way back then! They already had a head start on a star bound career, but it took one magical moment and a loving wife, Tracie Walton, to unknowingly move that future even higher into the realm of the great Country Artists. Here are the guys who make some of the best country music in Texas!

Based out of Houston Texas, the Buck Yeager Band is now considered one of Houston’s finest and best upcoming artists. But it hasn’t been easy. On the road constantly and with unstoppable passion and good old hard work, Greg Walton and his Buck Yeager Band played thousands of venues across varying states. They were the “Go To” band, for the past four years the Buck Yeager Band filling in for artists and venue holders who needed performers on the spot. Of course, rigorous schedules and eagerness to perform their great performances became the key to their gathering of huge number of fans who were witness to their talent and stage presences!
That’s the sign of a band who is bound for stardom in the Country Music industry – incredible talent from each band member, confident in their ability as a band to deliver a great performance, love and interaction with their audiences and a pure Texas Country Music heart, loving every moment of what they do. Greg recently did a show with Tracy Byrd - not an opening act, played and sang with Tracy!
Now that’s stepping up to future glory!
The Buck Yeager Band released their single “Deep in the West” in 2005 which debuted on 93Q with 16 weeks airplay – which included their Saturday night live broadcast at Tumbleweed Texas; Appeared on the Fox Morning Show with Matt Lavine; FEATURED in the soon to be released indie film “Necrophobia”; Received a sponsorship from Bud Light; Reviewed by THE Houston Chronicle as the regular House Band which named Tumbleweed Texas the “hottest spot on the North Side of Houston.” If you see the Buck Yeager Band in action you will realize the talent and dedication they put into their act and you will leave wanting to hear more. After this Examiner’s first interview with Greg Walton and one listen to the Buck Yeager Band’s Country, Americana and Folk blend, it was evident that the four members of the band had the mastery of vocals and music of a much more seasoned group. They have honed their talent to hit the highest mark in Texas Country Music.
And if you listen to the Buck Yeager Band’s music, now being played on such powerful radio stations as Houston’s 93Q thenew93q.com/we’ve heard and witnessed the talent and they are spreading like wildfire!
“In the last few years, we revamped the band, done a lot of restructuring of personnel and its come together more than we could imagine. One sad note which bears repeating: Greg’s lead band guitarists did not show up, and they found that he had severe diabetes. Greg said sadly “We lost him a few years ago.” I do believe that beloved lead guitarist is still around, because The Buck Yeager Band slowly recovered and their future couldn’t look brighter! Greg says, “So, we’ve gone from just playing here and there to really solid and well known venues and events right and left -- We’ve finally found the magical combination!
And Greg’s words seem to still echo our first talk, “We’re seeing sell-out crowds! It’s a very nice feeling to look out and so no empty seats, the dance floor is packed and it’s great to see the faces crowding the room. The stars must have been aligned just right, because it seems like the last six months (now four years later) have been an epic turnaround for us! So, I love the feeling of the sun shining on us now. And we can finally look around and say, wow, it’s really paying off! “

Shake Russell saw The Buck Yeager Band a few years ago at a gig in Houston. Greg says his words still are the highlight of their lives. Shake said, ‘You know I was out in the crowd, talking to a few of my friends, and asked them how we sounded. The comment from Shake, the band’s ultimate hero, ‘You guys sounded perfectly EVEN! Greg could only say ‘Wow, thanks!” After a brief conversation Shake smiled, shook my hand and gave me a CD.
One night the manager at Tumbleweed came up to me and said ‘You know, if you could record ‘Deep In The West,’ that would be great and I’m sure I could get it on the radio.’ Of course, that was all I needed to hear! So, I e-mailed Shake Russell and asked him if it would be alright if we recorded ‘Deep In The West’. He e-mailed me back and said ‘Absolutely! And if you need any help I’m in Houston all the time, give me a call, here’s my number, and will do everything I can to help get it out there!” (Wow!!)
Greg Walton continues, “In about a week’s time, we were in the studio, recorded it and threw it out there. And so far, so good! It was our first single, and in July, we received sixteen straight weeks of play on that tune with 93Q and a Saturday night performance was broadcast live from Tumbleweed Texas. And that was a crowning moment for us!
His next moment was THE most memorable and prophetic places in time, and all orchestrated by Tracy, his beautiful wife. “At my birthday party a few years back, Tracey gathered friends and family to celebrate and Greg was asked to bring his guitar. “So, getting up there to entertain those much loved family and friends, I began to sing. I was a little surprised at hearing a guitar tuning up in the background. And again, shock was hardly the word for it – here comes Shake Russell! He came out there with me and we sang some songs together! Then he stood up and asked if I wanted to sing ‘Deep In The West’ with him – almost speechless, I managed an ‘ABSOLUTELY YES!’ That was a very, very proud moment, and that means a lot, being one of my heroes and has all my admiration!”
