Saturday August 16, 2014 at the DTE Music Theater in Clarkston, MI. was where the stage was set for an epic battle between hip-hops chart toping performers from Young Money Cash Money Billionaires. Drake and Lil Wayne entered their 7th round of battle tied at 3 to 3 after Drake captured the crowd in Cincinnati, OH. the night before.
Yo Gotti opened the show and got the crowd ready for the battle ahead. He Tennessee rapper that is representing CMG gave the crowd their moneys worth performing a variety of crowd favorites including “I know” featuring Rich Homie Quan. Yo Gotti is also pushing his new single “Errrbody” which you can hear at YoGottiMusic.com.
After Yo Gotti’s performance ended the audience was promoted to download the Drake vs Lil Wayne app. This Android/iOS compatiable download allowed concert goers to interact directly with the show by choosing who goes first, sending power ups to their favorite performer and ultimately deciding who is the best between Drizzy Drake and Mr. Carter, as they introduced themselves on stage. The Street fighter themed intro preceded the announcement of who went first. The tour theme was powered by Capcom, the developers of the Street Fighter series, and iam8bit, the graphic company behind the amazing art work in the app and on screen. Just as the opener closed and the smoke from the pyrotechnics cleared, the audience erupted as Lil Wayne rose from the second level of the stage. When Weezy completed his opening set and disappeared into the floor Drake stepped on stage with comparable flair and energy.
The YMCMB artist passed the stage back and fourth until the battle began when they took the stage together and the tug-of-war began. At this point the audience was able to send additional power ups to the artist of their choice to help dictate the winner. After an amazing display of lyrical talent and showmanship a winner couldn’t be decided and a tie was declared. This was the first tie to take place during the tour so the fans of the artist were treated to an encore that featured both Lil Wayne and Drake.
Overall the theme of this tour was amazing and the collaboration of a live band, the interactive audience app and an awe inspiring stage performance this was definitely a 5 star performance.
