Just as the college bowl games get interesting and the NFL playoffs get started, I thought it would be good to check out the burger situation at Wolfley's Neighborhood Grill http://www.wolfleys.com/. Owned by former Arizona Cardinals player turned broadcaster/ sports talk show host Ron Wolfley this sports bar/ family restaurant is located in the Desert Ridge area of north Phoenix. The multi-paged menu offers a lot including 11 burgers with 9 of them made from Angus chuck beef ($7.95 - $9.25) as well as a Portabello burger and a turkey burger both priced at $8.50. For this review I went with the Bacon & Bleu burger ($9.25).
This and all burgers are 1/2 lb. and are char-grilled to order before being placed on a buttered and toasted bun. The Bacon and Bleu burger is topped with.....you guessed it 2 strips of Applewood smoked bacon and bleu cheese crumbles. The top half of the bun is garnished with Green Leaf lettuce and a single tomato slice plus a couple of pickle chips on the side. It was love after 1st bite as the soft, pink middle was exposed along with two of my favorite toppings working well together offering just enough flavor of both. Flavorful enough so that the ketchup was not even needed. The under $10 price also helped make me smitten for more.
No less than 10 choices for sides are available including fries, sweet potato fries, baked beans and coleslaw are just a few as was my choice of steamed broccoli florets which were a good healthy option.
If one finds themselves in the Desert Ridge area craving a good burger know that Wolfley's is a great option to the chain restaurants that dominate the area.
