For “Romance Under the Sea” set up reservations for Valentine’s Day in the ball room of the Aquarium at Kemah Boardwalk. The Sweetheart package includes dinner for 2 in the ballroom, a five course meal and two glasses of champagne. To make reservations call 281-334-9010. The Aquarium features a 50,000 gallon tank and offers an under the sea themed menu for a unique experience and the atmosphere can be very romantic on a cool February night.
The hours of operation are 11:30 am- 9 pm, Sunday through Thursday, open later on Friday to 10 pm, and even later on Saturday, until 11 pm.
The review of the Aquarium would be 4 stars. 5 for the atmosphere and creative display of the food, but the food itself was really only a 3. The shrimp and fish were seasoned well, other than that the food was rather bland and average. The mixed drink was great, it was the Sunset Mai Tai with Bacardi light rum, Crème de Almond, fruit juices and Meyer’s original dark rum. The salad pictured is the Thai Shrimp Salad and it was a very elegant presentation and the shrimp were great. The Mandarin oranges were soggy and there was very little if any of the green beans mentioned, it was mostly lettuce like packaged Dole… very little of any almonds etc. The Fish tacos were supposed to be Mahi Mahi, really? The fish was seasoned well and it was a great display with the foil fish tales.
Honestly, for the prices, the Aquarium is a sweet place to take your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day. If you plan on having great drinks and relaxing in a dreamy environment, order wisely and you will have a romantic evening.
