Songs on the record shift in sound and production a lot, but always manage to maintain an eerie and haunting quality to their nature.
The track "This Time" (which is offered for free download) is kind of the stand out single of the album- featuring a somewhat cleaner production and more upbeat driving feel. The lead female vocal of this piece sounds very straightforward and powerful, somewhat similar to early Jefferson Airplane.
The track "Gunshot" is an offering that features sparser production, with special attention paid to rich vocal harmonies (which stand out and are the main focus of this piece).
Songs like "Firefly Lullaby" are a good example of The Aprons unique style of melancholy, somewhat hopeful, but hopeful in a dark world, and ending on a dissonant note of longing.
Altogether "Sound Stains" manages to be big yet intimate, spirited yet beaten... a very strong record.
