The original reboot of the Spider-Man franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man, was kind of a dud. Lacking the fun and playfulness, not to mention the quality knowledge and love, that Sam Raimi brought to the franchise and Tobey Maguire brought to the character, the film was pretty enough to look at, but played flatter than a spider under a heavy boot. Hopes were high for the sequel that director Marc Webb could pull together a bit more fun and deliver a Spider-Man who felt like he should while taking on the daunting task of developing the Sinister Six and delivering one of the best romantic stories in comic book history. While it's undeniable that the film is an improvement that hardly makes it successful at any of these things.
