The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards

The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards last night were some of the best ever, in my humble opinion. I never miss an awards show. I love to watch them all. Last night's in particular was of interest to me as normally I get a chance to see the majority of the movies before the show and am strongly opinionated on who should win what.

Last night I realized that I had only since two of the movies that were up for any of the awards and typically I don't watch the type of TV shows that were presented also, so it was almost a clear slate for me.

Great! I say, as I was about to take notes about which films look like something that would interest me or I would enjoy (I admit, I am so picky).

It has to be intelligent, visually stunning, the acting has to be superb... and so on and so forth.

I made a listen of movies to see in the near future and because our local movie theatre in Kihei closed after so many years, I have to make the trek into town to see Movies. When you live in the beach areas of Maui like I do, this is a major drawback and partly the reason why I got behind on some of the greats such as Lincoln etc.

Life of Pi looks like it has lots of my favorite elements in a movie.

Favorite dress on the red carpet for me? Hands down it was Lucy Lui. So youthful and original, I absolutely fell in love with it!

I felt that the jokes were actually fun this year (I usual cringe at that stuff and wish it were better), so I was really pleased about that, and even great deliveries on the parts of both of them.

I also was moved by Jodie Foster's speech as I felt it was heartfelt, sincere, honest, forthright, and smart. I got a bit teary eyed myself.

I saw some serious faced male actors in the room and wondered what was going through their minds. I got a quick look into one of them, Kevin Costner, when he came up and gave his acceptance speech, and then I realized as I listened to him thinking back on his entire career history and addressed his early beginnings coming there as a "nobody".

I appreciate the gifts these incredible artists bring year in and year out, and for our entertainment pleasure, or to bring more awareness into our lives and I feel so grateful and indebted to them.

One last comment here. They really need to redesign the award, as it looks like a small, clumsy looking little club. It's unattractive. It's the Globe, and there are wonderful designs that could and should be used instead.
