On January 19th, the 28th Annual Stellar Awards made history with their first ever live taping of the show broadcast on Gospel Music Network at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, TN .
It was a night of excitement with a variety of great performances from gospel greats to the new generation of gospel music. This year sister duo Mary-Mary (Erica and Tina Campbell) hosted the show with their great friend Kirk Franklin.
Tye Tribett set the tone opening up the night with a performance of "Same God." He rocked the crowd as only he can do and shared he will have a new album coming out in 2013.
Presenters for the evening included Kim Burrell, VaShawn Mitchell, Bishop Paul Morton, Dr. Bobby Jones, Rance Allen, Donald Lawrence, Shawn Thompson, Wess Morgan, Michelle Williams, Lexi, Earnest Pugh, Lisa Page Brooks, James Fotune, Hezekiah Walker and Don Jackson.
Of course, all the performances were first class as only the Stellars can deliver. Hosts Mary-Mary had the crowd reciting their popular track"Go Get It" and working some fierceness with their fashion provided by their sister stylist Goo Goo and some dance moves.
Newcomer group Israel Houghton teamed up with Jason Nelson with their message filled song "It's Not Over," while the Inez Andrews Tribute took us back and Donnie McClurkin , Dottie Peoples, Maurette Brown Clark and Marvin Winans brought tears of joy to our eyes.
In addition, the younger generation of gospel was not to be overlooked. They made a mark as well with Amber Bullock, Y’Anna Crawley, KiKi Sheard & Anita Wilson performing , as well as LeAndria Johnson.
On the flip side, the surprise of the night was Tamala Mann's performance of "Take Me to the King." She really has a powerful and beautiful voice.
