For all the Asian cuisine novices out there...put down those chop sticks from the local Chinese takeout and head to Thai Orchid right now.
Chinese food, Thai food and Vietnamese food are often lumped together into a category of unhealthy, low quality noodles and rice dishes with chicken and other varieties of mystery meat. This couldn't be further from the truth if you find the right place. If you are looking for fresh and delicious Thai food, Thai Orchid is the place to go.
The lunch specials can't be beat. For only $6.99, lunch specials include Thai soup, a small salad with tangy ginger dressing and a spring roll to accompany the main dish.
I had the red curry with medium spice. I chose chicken cooked in red curry with coconut milk, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, green bean and basil leaves. Deliciously spicy served with a side of perfectly sticky, white rice. This is a lot of food for seven bucks. I took home half of my entrée.
The pad thai is another crowd pleaser. The stir-fried rice noodles are mixed with bean sprouts, onion, egg, crushed peanuts and tofu in Pad Thai sauce.
The ambience of Thai Orchid is serene and welcoming. The décor includes pictures of Bangkok and other artistic pieces native to Thailand. The service is cheerful and efficient.
Located behind Charleston's at 82nd and Bash in Castleton, you wouldn't find this little place without looking for it. But it is worth a second look.
