Tenuta Sette Ponte is a winery in land famous for centuries, Italy’s Toscana. There flagship wine is the Super Tuscan “Oreno,” named after the river that runs through the winery. “Oreno” is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.
Tenuta Sette Ponte, Rosso Toscana, Oreno, 2004 is dark garnet red in the glass. The nose is filled with dark red berries, leather earth, dark cacao, toasty oak and menthol. The palate unveils itself in layers of blackberry, red delicious apple, cherry, with leather and earth rounding out the palate. Even ten years old the wine’s tannins are strong but smooth, nice acidity leads to a very long finish. Pour this wine and let it sit in the glass for a few minutes and swirl it to release its aromas and flavors. The fruit really shows after the wine has some breathing room.
This wine screams for meat, something right of the grill, or if pasta is in order a nice Bolognese meat sauce would be perfect.
This is an unbelievable wine, the price will reflect it, but if you can find a bottle buy it and serve for a special day, birthday or anniversary will do.
