On Tenacity, saxophonist Paul Taylor and longtime producer Dino Esposito present a diverse program which spans their vast repertoire, including works featuring guest appearances by keyboardists Jeff Lorber and Jonathan Fritzen. Over his acclaimed career, Paul Taylor has been reinventing the role of the saxophonist in contemporary urban jazz and today remains one of its most vital, forward thinking performers in the genre. Tenacity, his tenth full release, is a fascinating recording that offers further insight into his creative process as a composer and collaborator. Keyboardist Jonathan Fritzen adds his lush piano harmonies to Paul’s easy flowing lyrical soprano saxophonics on the opening track titled “Supernova.” His creative domain also includes special guest Jeff Lorber on electric piano and guitar for the luxurious ambience he created for “Luxe.” Here, Paul’s playing reflects a unique and refreshing perspective. You’ll enjoy the easygoing, contemplative feel of two superb musicians playing together with sensitivity, beauty and depth. “Tenacity” has a great melody and a memorable hook that will have you appreciating Paul’s ability to run his story down in a single word – tenacity. Overall, you will enjoy listening to Tenacity because of its diverse compositions and because of Paul Taylor’s masterful saxophone playing, jazz composing and arranging skills. So whenever you feel like kicking back, Tenacity is one to revisit over and over. For more information about Paul Taylor please visit his website.
