Teen Mom: 'Mean Tom' (2012)

"Mean Tom" by Teen Mom is an Indie Pop album with a real laid back beach vibe.

Most songs by Teen Mom manage to wander and stay tight at the same time. Often their sound will start out sounding upbeat and surfy, somewhat distant, and then it progresses into a large fuzz rock production. Teen Mom really demonstrates well in "Mean Tom" their ability to have and hold a sound that can bounce back and forth really well between relaxing and epic.

Teen Mom is daring in their building of song structures, a trait which has good and bad consequences throughout the album. At times their structures and the overall formula within can be a little too eclectic to be enjoyable- I'm talking about an excess of drum fills, and beats that can get busy within a landscape of sparse vocals and other pretty straight forward rhythm sections. On the other hand their unique build of songs keeps things interesting and this "too busy" sound is ultimately in the minority of most songs, and things stay pretty listenable and enjoyable throughout.
