When it comes to bicycle helmets they are like seat belts - better to use one but never to need one.
Many cyclists consider them rather a nuisance - too bulky and too dorky.
Pro-cycling Team Sky Vertigo is one of few exceptions. It provides top notch elegance and comfort. At 2010 Interbike, the largest bicycle industry trade show in North America, bicycle helmets by Italian maker, Kask, stood above the crowd. The design offers an appealing flow and a glossy finish enhances the overall impression.
The first test ride coincided with an introduction of Atlanta based pro cycling team, RealCyclist.com. On a cold Febraury morning, a 16 mile ride around Dahlonega was enough to attract great comments and first hand experience.
The Up‘n’Down adjustment system gives the most precise and comfortable fitting of any helmet thanks to its unique double pivot design. This allows the back of the head to be cradled by the straps, which are then easily tightened to the correct tension by a central ratchet wheel. This fit system combined with a very breathable, non-slip, GEL internal liner ensures top performance for the user.
Long haired users must be a bit cautious as the gel pads tend to pull hair at times.
A self adjusting lateral divider provides great comfort for the user with minimal adjustment. After putting on the helmet and fastening the chin strap, nothing else is required as the divider moves itself to fit comfortably around the ear lobe. Other brands have dividers that need manual adjusting.
The special 3D Dry Padding utilizes innovative, open cell construction, to ensure maximum comfort and performance at all times.
The main features that ensure excellent ventilation are:
• A huge amount of ventilation holes in the padding that reduce the head-to-pad contact area by 70% over standard designs.
• 5 mm thick padding material that draws moisture away from the head and moves it to the outer part of the helmet for fast evaporation.
• Excellent transpiration thanks to a great three ways evaporation
The forehead padding is especially helpful in stopping sweat from flowing down the forehead and getting into the eyes.
The eco-leather chin strap incorporates soft lateral spacers, which, thanks to their shape, enable excellent ventilation and avoid that unpleasant sweaty strap feeling.
Riders spending hours in the saddle will greatly appreciate the lack of salt deposit and virtually no smell.
At MSRP of $339.99 Team Sky Vertigo has an "ouch" factor but price hunters will be rewarded, after some research.
Some bicycle shops in Georgia already sell it and numerous reviews grant this helmet the highest score.
